Get Your Home Ready to Sell in 7 Days!
It happened. You either just finally decided to make the leap, or you got the job offer out of town, or you found your absolutely dream home. That’s amazing! Congratulations! But then it hits you, now you have to get your home sold, and FAST. Selling your home can feel overwhelming, but don’t worry—I’ve got you covered. With a little strategy and effort, you can have your home market-ready in just one week. I had a teacher that used to say, “How do you eat an elephant?” The answer? One bite at a time. Let’s break it down step by step, to one bite at a time!
**Day 1: Declutter & Depersonalize**
Let’s start by making your home feel like a blank canvas for buyers.
- Tuck away personal items like family photos and keepsakes.
- Clear countertops, shelves, and closets to create a spacious feel. If you can, clear the floors in your closets (it makes them feel larger!)
- Donate or store anything you don’t need to show off your home’s potential. If you need to stack some boxes in the garage, that’s okay. A storage unit may be a better option. The more you can clear out of your home, the better it will show, and the more buyers will be able to envision themselves in the space.
**Day 2: Deep Cleaning**
A spotless home makes a great first impression! I recommend hiring a professional for this, but you can also absolutely do it yourself!
- Give those windows, floors, and carpets a good scrub.
- Don’t forget to dust light fixtures, ceiling fans, and vents.
-Wipe down the baseboards, doors, and door frames! A Magic Eraser will be your best friend.
- Make kitchens and bathrooms sparkle—buyers love a fresh, clean space.
- Say goodbye to any lingering pet odors.
**Day 3: Repairs & Maintenance**
A little TLC goes a long way! That maintenance you’ve been putting off?! You want to jump on top of that before photos and listing.
- Fix leaky faucets, squeaky doors, and loose handles.
- Touch up paint where needed to give your home a fresh look. Patch any visible nail holes.
- Swap out burnt-out light bulbs.
- Double-check that appliances are running smoothly, and having your AC serviced is also a great idea.
**Day 4: Boost That Curb Appeal**
First impressions matter, and that starts outside!
- Mow the lawn and trim those bushes.
- Add a pop of color with fresh flowers or potted plants by the entrance.
- Power wash the driveway and sidewalks to make everything shine.
- Refresh the front door with clean hardware and a welcoming mat.
**Day 5: Staging to Impress**
Let’s make your home feel warm and inviting for potential buyers.
- Arrange furniture to create an open, airy flow.
- Add neutral decor to appeal to a wide range of tastes.
- Brighten up spaces by opening curtains and adding cozy lighting.
- Set the dining table and create inviting spaces to help buyers imagine life here.
**Day 6: Picture Perfect & Marketing Magic**
Time to show your home in the best light! These are just a few of the final steps I’ll take to get your home on the market.
- Schedule a professional real estate photographer—trust me, it’s worth it. If you work with me to sell your home, this is always included so you never have tow dry about it. I work with the best of the best!
- Plan for photos during daylight hours for the best natural light. As your agent, I’ll arrive a couple of hours before photos to put those finishing touches on. You should plan to be gone from the home with pets and people (and as many of your vehicles as possible) for about 4 hours typically.
- Spread the word on social media and local groups.
**Day 7: Final Touches & Show-Ready Prep**
You’re almost there—let’s make sure everything is perfect!
- Add fresh flowers and light a subtle-scented candle.
- Keep all rooms neat and organized for last-minute showings.
- Turn on the lights and open blinds to make your home feel bright and welcoming.
- Be ready to accommodate showings—flexibility can make all the difference!
